We all probably heard about the tyrannosaurus rex or the saber tooth tiger or maybe even the Wooly mammoth, but did you know that these are all prehistoric animals? Prehistoric animals are anamals that lived on earth between the origin of life 3.5 Billion years ago to 3500 B.C. There are many prehistoric animals but today I will be talking about 5 amazing prehistoric animals you probably never heard of.


1. The Helicoprion 

  This shark- like fish was known for its “tooth whorls” this terrifying creature had all its teeth located on the lower jaw so they could break down its soft-bodied prey. This shark-like fish was discovered in Idaho. The fish was measured to be about 33 feet long; scientists have suggested that this terrifying creature was estimated to grow up to 39 feet long. Luckily this bone chilling creature went extinct 225 million years ago.


2.  The titanoboa

This long snake-like creature lived about 60 million years ago, this terrifying creature weighed over 2,500 pounds and could get up to 50 feet long which is longer than a school bus. The titanoboa was believed to have mainly eaten fish but some also think it ate dangerous prey like alligators. Scientists believe since the climate is rising that this terrifying creature or something like it could come back.


3. The Deinosuchus

This alligator- like creature lived about 82-73 million years ago during the Cretaceous period, many believe this was the largest alligator to ever exist.This terrifying creature could get up to 33 feet long and weigh up to 2.5 to 14 tons. This alligator- like creature had a set of strong teeth that was used for crushing their prey. The Deinosuchus was belived to live with some of the largest creatures known to mankind.


4.  The gigantopithecus

This ape-like creature was thought to be the largest ape to ever exist at up to 10 feet tall and weighing up to 1100 pounds. This terrifying creature was most likely a herbavore it was suggested that they lived in south china, their biggest threats were climate changes and big cats. The gigantopithecus most likely went extinct because of climate change.





5. The megalodon

This shark-like creature was known to be the biggest shark in the world, it could get up to 60 feet long and weigh up to 75 tons. This supersized shark was most likely a carnivore and it was estimated to have lived up to 40 years of age. These terrifying creatures had a ginormous mouth and had teeth the size of bananas. This bone chilling creature luckily went extinct 3.6 million years ago most likely due to climate change.


In conclusion many prehistoric animals had a major impact on how animals look and act in the world today. Like the animals in this blog such as the megalodon and the titanoboa they shaped how sharks and snakes act and look in the present day, be aware that due to climate change some of these animals could reappear in our future
